Celebration of World Environment Day on 5th June, 2025
The Indian Water Works Association (IWWA), Indore Centre, observed World Environment Day at the Vishveshwaraiya Bhawan Hall, Indore. The theme speaker for the event was Dr. H. V. Tilwankar. The program was chaired by Er. Sudhir Saxena, Past President of IWWA and Retired Engineer-in-Chief. Er. K. K. Songaria, also a Past President and Retired Engineer-in-Chief, was the Guest of Honour, and Dr. R. K. Shrivastava was present as the Special Guest. As per the tradition of IWWA Indore Centre, all dignitaries on the dais were honored with coconuts. The welcome address was given by Chief Engineer Er. Sanjay Kumar Sir and Superintending Engineer Er. Monika Mandoli (Sapre). A brief introduction of the speaker was presented by Er. Vijay Charhate ji. Dr. Tilwankar delivered an in-depth talk on how plastic has become an inseparable part of our daily lives. He discussed the rules and advisories issued by the Government of India, highlighting the gaps and loopholes in their enforcement. He explained why restrictions are not being effectively implemented and what technological changes and upcoming innovations could help mitigate plastic pollution to some extent. Following his address, a lively question-and-answer session was held, during which members expressed satisfaction with the responses provided by the speaker. Dr. R. K. Shrivastava Sir emphasized the importance of public awareness and how we can cultivate sustainable habits, using the cleanliness of Indore city as a shining example of citizen participation. He stressed the point that change must begin with the individual. In his presidential address, Er. Sudhir Saxena Sahab drew comparisons with ancient times, reflecting on how our lifestyles have changed over the years in pursuit of comfort and convenience, often at the cost of traditional, eco-friendly habits. Mementos were presented to the guests by Er. Sanjeev Shrivastava and Er. Purvi Sharma. The vote of thanks was proposed by Er. N. M. Quraishi, Chairman of IWWA Indore Centre. The program was conducted by Er. Komal Prasad.
