Graphical Methods Of Forecasting System Behaviour

Mathematical devices such as computers enable the design and distribution engineer of our times to arrive at speedy solutions to complex problems and with a great degree of precision  a degree at times far beyond that required in practice. A highly precise solution is, however, not necessarily an accurate one, and herein lies the danger of too much reliance on sophisticated techniques applied without due regard for the inaccuracies in the input data…

Water Fluoridation : Facts Not Myths

Enormous advances have been made in leading cities of India in preserving children's lives and health through sanitation, inoculation s. and antibiotic drugs. Unfortunately little effective progress has been made in the cities in conquering the problem of dental decay. This was true to a large ex lent till recent times even in an advanced nation like the United States of America. However, as stated by President Johnson in his message of 21st January, 1968 on National Children's Denial Health Week. Progress through established programs for the prevention of dental disease — such as water fluoridation — continues to be impressive. The number of Americans drinking fluoridated water has increased by more than 20 million persons in the last five years; today some 73 million people are protected in this manner. Fluoridation has thus recently come to be established as a major health benefit,  concludes President Johnson in his message.

Balancing Of Water Distribution Networks- A Review

A fundamental flow problem that has long engaged the attention of engineers interested in water and fluid distribution is the evaluation of flows and head losses in a complicated network of pipes where a set of inlet and drawoff conditions are either given or estimated. Consistent with the basic hydraulic laws, viz., Z Q = 0 (I) E H = 0 (2) where E Q represents the algebraic sum of the flows at a junction (those towards and away from junction being given positive and negative signs respectively) and E H represents the algebraic sum of the head losses mound a loop or closed circuit (losses for clockwise and anticlockwise flows being given positive and negative signs), and on the basis of pipe sizes chosen by the engineer from experience, the problem was to find either the magnitude and direction of flows in all the pipes for a given set of inflows into system or to assess the head losses in the several pipes for a given set of water elevations at some junctions of the system...

Bombay Water Supply – Estimation Of Reservoir Yields By “synthetic Srough” Techniques

The work on which this paper has been based has been carried out by Messrs. Binnie & Partners (India) Ltd . on behalf of the Government of Maharashtra, and the author's thanks are due both to the Govern. meat and to Bionic and Partners for permission to use the information presented. Nevertheless, neither Binnie and Partners nor the Government of Maharashtra have approved the paper in detail, and it newt be stressed that it reflects a non-specialist’s personal opinions, based on experience in the detailed application of techniques which in the first instance had been recommended and applied by specialist engineers of Binnie and Partners Hydrological department.....

Forward Planning For Water Supply-badoda Region

When it was the capital of a State, Baroda enjoyed an adequate and good water supply; but it has now outgrown the public utilities due to rapid industrialization. Bawds has become one of the focal centres of industrial development in Gujarat and Western India. It has to its credit, diversification of industries (a) chemical and pharmaceuticals with Alembic Chemical Works and Sarabhai Group of Industries in collaboration with Squibbs, Merck and Geigy. (b) engineering industries like lyoti Limited. Tensile Steel, aindostan Brown Roved. etc.. (c) the Gujarat Refinery with a capacity of 3 million tones a year built in a record time of 30 months and (d) Gujarat State Fertilizers — biggest in India. A Petrochemical complex has aso been planned as a natural consequence of such development......
